Literacy is an integral part of our kindergarten program. Our aim is to immerse the children in a literacy rich environment. Developing literacy skills involves learning to express ourselves verbally, creating a passion for listening to stories and a curiosity for books and the written language. Additionally, developing fine motor skills via painting, drawing, cutting etc. that eventually enable us to write are also important components in learning to read and write.
Reading and writing skills develop in sequence. One step follows another. A lot of practice is required at each stage. Many of the activities your child participates in at preschool are designed to assist them with each of the sequential stages necessary for the acquisition of reading and writing skills.
