At East Beaumaris Preschool we encourage the involvement of our families in all aspects of the kinder’s operation. As a minimum, families are expected to participate in the following:
kinder duty twice per term – the children love having mum or dad or a family member on duty and parent help at each session is a traditional and essential part of the kinder routine;
laundry once a term (4 year old groups only); and
end of year clean up – at least 2 hours in the weeks prior to the kinder closing for the year
The Parent Participation Rebate for 2011 is $150 and will be added to your first term fees. The purpose of the PPR is to encourage all familities to participate in the operation of the kinder, and as such will be rebated to you at the end of the year following your participation in one of any of the following additional activities:
Being a member of the Committee of Management. East Beaumaris Preschool is a not-for-profit, community run kindergarten. This means that the responsibility for ensuring that the kinder is run properly and according to all regulatory requirements rests with the Committee of Management made up of kinder parents. As a Committee member your level of involvement would vary depending on the position taken. The Committee meets monthly and each member is expected to fulfil specific functions that may involve an average of 1 to 2 hours of your time each week.
Attendance at a Working Bee. Working Bees are held each term on a Sunday morning between 9 am and 11 am (check times). The purpose of the Working Bee is to tend to general maintenance and upkeep of the kinder.
Volunteering for the annual Bunnings sausage sizzle. Each year the kinder holds a sausage sizzle at a local Bunnings store to raise funds for the kinder. The Bunnings sausage sizzle is a unique opportunity to raise funds from outside the kinder community. Volunteers are required to cook and sell the sausages. Around 16 volunteers are required and each volunteer is asked to attend for 2 hours.
Other Activities. Each year the Committee of Management considers what other activities or individual contributions made by parents will trigger the PPR. For example in 2010 the Committee asked for a volunteer to purchase everyday items on behalf of the teachers. The Shopping volunteer was asked to shop once a month with all purchases paid for by the kinder. There are also times when sewing tasks are required. Parents with sewing skills can earn the PPR by agreeing to take home sewing repairs or sew new items for use at the kinder.
Rosters for the above events will be posted throughout the year. You will be asked to indicate which activity your family will participate in. Once you have completed that event your entitlement to the rebate will be recorded. Rebates are given either as a deduction from term 4 fees or, if you complete your event in term 4, a cheque will be issued.
